Apparel automation moves a single repetitive operation, a hem, a pocket set, a placket, a serged edge, off an operator and onto a programmed cell that loads, sews, and stacks on its own. It is how a plant answers a skilled labor shortage on the operations that are hardest to staff and easiest to vary from one person to the next.
The cells range from sew and stack units that automate a straight seam and stack the finished part, to programmable pattern sewers that follow a stored stitch path, to dedicated setters for pockets, plackets, and cuffs. What they share is a fixture that positions the part the same way every cycle, so the variable becomes the machine, not the operator on shift.
